Rheem

Rheem Ambiheat HDc-270

270 litre heat pump for a family that would run a smaller one dry.

Ring for the current supply priceFour or more, or a house with two bathrooms.

Supply only. We don't publish an install price because it depends on the gas line, the run to the taps and where the old unit sits - and a number here would be a guess at your house.

From the van

If there are four of you, this is the size to be looking at. The 215s get put in houses that needed a 270 and then people wonder why the last shower is cold. Bring an electrician either way, there's no plug on it. And take Rheem seriously about the bedroom window - that one comes back on you.

What it's good at

  • 270 litres, so a family of four isn't watching the tank
  • Rheem parts and service are everywhere in Brisbane
  • Sits close to the wall - only 25 mm needed behind it
  • Drain line comes fitted from the factory

What to watch for

  • No plug. It's hard-wired, so an electrician is part of every install
  • 405 kg full. That's a lot on a timber deck
  • Rheem's own manual says keep it away from bedroom windows - yours and the neighbour's
  • 690 wide and 720 deep, so measure a tight side path before you order

How it compares

Rinnai Enviroflo 215

Smaller tank, narrower, slightly quieter. Both need an electrician.

Dux Ecosmart Pro 270

Same size tank, and there's a version that plugs into a normal power point. Dux publishes no noise figure.

Electric storage

Cheaper to buy, roughly three times to run.

Work out what it'll cost you to run

At your tariff, against every other type - because the cheaper unit often isn't.

Questions we get

Is 270 litres enough for a family?

Four people, yes. Six, or two bathrooms going at once, and it's worth a conversation.

Can I put it where my old tank was?

Usually, if the base takes 405 kg and there's a drain. We check that on the quote.

Do I need an electrician?

Yes. It's hard-wired on its own circuit.

How loud is it?

48 dB(A) at a metre. Fine down the side of the house, not under a bedroom window.
